The upcoming Friends reboot will, allegedly, compete with the reunion movie for Sex and the City.
According to New Idea, Sarah Jessica Parker has always wanted to have a big-screen revival. But, her “feud” with Kim Cattrall has, allegedly, made it impossible. An unnamed source claimed that the Sex and the City co-stars have quietly patched things up. As such, a big-screen revival is possible and it may compete with Friends. However, there are no concrete pieces of evidence that can prove these claims as of this writing.
The insider said that Parker and Cattrall didn’t feel any pressure from their co-stars to make amends. As such, they decided to reconcile privately and discreetly.
“But they’re both happy to be moving on and saying only positive things about each other, for the first time in years,” the unnamed source said, as per New Idea.
“There’s no doubt whatsoever that Kim and Sarah’s feud was what put a halt to the reunion taking place. It was the elephant in the room because everyone wanted to make it happen but how can you film a whole sequel alongside two of the main stars who hate each other?” the insider added.
Television show reboots
Now that Parker and Cattrall’s relationship has improved, the source said that there’s no doubt that the Sex and the City movie will push through.
The publication said that there will most likely be a race to see which reboot will be released first. As of late, production on several television shows and movies are still halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
‘Friends’ reunion special confirmed
Earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the Friends reunion special received a go at HBO Max. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer all signed to reprise their roles.
“I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends — and audiences — gathered together in real-time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans,” Kevin Reilly, the chief content officer at HBO Max, said in a statement.
Parker, previously, expressed her desire to reprise her role in Sex and the City. However, no confirmation that the movie will push through.
